PÅ VILDVEJE (ASTRAY)
Participatory guided walk and exhibition
in Jægersborg Hegn and Raadvad Artist Village, Denmark, 2020.
The House of Wild Wood Woman was temporarily set up in the woodland at Raadvad Værksteder og Atelierer (Raadvad Artist Village) and converted into the “Institute of Free Forest Philosophy” as part of Open Studios and Naturens Uge (Danish Nature Week). From here, Anne Mølleskov conducted a participatory guided walk into Jægersborg Hegn, a state-owned bog and forest land north of the river Mølleåen.
The title of the walk was På Vildveje, which plays on the two meanings in Danish: it directly translates to "on wild tracks" but also means walking astray and being on the wrong paths, leading away from what is considered central and correct, literally or in life. The trip crossed and recrossed the beaten tracks as well as the boundaries between reality and fantasy, incorporating elements from previous projects: Stand Tall, Bewildered in the Wilderness, and Common Ground.
The motivation for conducting this event was a desire to open up the idea of ‘landscape (painting)’ by merging the subject (the audience/participants) with the object (the landscape), aiming for more embodied, polysensory, and participatory experiences.
The walk was part of Naturens Dag in collaboration with Danmarks Naturfredningsforening (The Danish Society for Nature Conservation) and Friluftsrådet (Danish Outdoor Council).
